An initiative of The Present organization founded on the belief in what nature can mean for people: a peaceful place to retreat, a space for healing, and an environment to grow—both literally and figuratively. The project aims to connect the power of entrepreneurship with social initiatives, creating green havens for a variety of communities: in walk-in centers for the homeless, asylum seekers’ centers, and safe houses. Always developed in consultation, agreement, and collaboration with the people involved—ensuring that everyone has access to a green home where they can take root. The first Growing Roots site is currently being developed at the asylum seekers’ center on Willinklaan in Amsterdam. There, a group of residents maintains the garden on a weekly basis. By creating a natural space for connection and activity, the project enhances the environment for residents—a place to meet, engage in daily activities, and learn about and work with nature.
